Orthotics are custom made inserts worn in your shoes that provide correction to your feet, helping them to function more efficiently. Poor foot function and alignment may be the cause of various pains such as foot pain, hip pain, knee pain and back pain. Prescription orthotics may help relieve your pain by realigning and stabilizing the bones in your feet, restoring your natural walking pattern and better aligning your weight bearing joints.
Our clinic uses GaitScan which is a state of the art computer hardware and software system that helps the practitioner assess and analyze your feet. This analysis combined with your practitioner’s experience and knowledge detects abnormal foot function which may be affecting your feet or other parts of your body. In certain cases a three dimensional mold may be required as well. We send this information in to the podiatric laboratory at which point they manufacture a pair of prescription orthotics customized to your feet. It takes approximately two to three weeks for this process to be completed, and for the lab to ship them directly to our office.
We provide a package of paperwork for the patient to submit to their extended health benefit company, which include a gait scan, proof of manufacturing, lab invoice and a list of material and techniques used to manufacture the orthotics.
If you are suffering from foot, ankle, knee, hip or lower back pain you may be a good candidate for custom prescription orthotics. Use of custom prescription orthotics can also prevent problems from developing.
